Reach Out for Help Tackling Substance Misuse

National Recovery Month, observed every September, is a time to raise awareness about substance misuse, promote access to recovery resources, and celebrate individuals who are living healthy, productive lives in recovery. This national observance also highlights the importance of support systems—from family and friends to professionals—who play a key role in helping others heal.

Why It Matters to the Marine Corps Community

Substance misuse can affect anyone, including Marines and their families. The unique challenge of military life—such as operational stress, deployment, and transitions—can increase risk factors. That’s why early intervention, support, and stigma-free access to help are so vital.

MCCS Is Here to Support You

The Marine Corps Community Services (MCCS) Substance Assessment and Counseling Program offers confidential, judgment-free support to help individuals regain control and get back on track. Services are designed to:

  • Support Marines and their families through every stage of recovery
  • Protect privacy and reduce stigma associated with seeking help
  • Promote resilience, readiness, and long-term wellness

How You Can Take Action

Whether you’re in recovery, supporting a loved one, or simply want to create a healthier environment, here are ways to get involved:

  • Reach out early if you or a loved one is struggling.
  • Celebrate recovery milestones, no matter how small.
  • Promote understanding and a culture of support within your unit and community.
  • Connect with MCCS resources to start or continue the journey to wellness.
