Camp Fuji Marine Wins 2019 SAAPM Poster Contest

Marines and Sailors stationed at Combined Arms Training Center Camp Fuji carry the same card in their wallets. It reads: “If they stand behind you, protect them. If they stand beside you, respect them. If they stand against you, defeat them.”

The cards were adapted from a poster 2ndLt Ryan Morie designed for the 4th annual Sexual Assault Awareness and Prevention Month (SAAPM) contest, sponsored by the Commandant.

Morie won the 2019 contest with his entry, titled “Camp Fuji Ethos.” His poster ties into the Department of Defense’s ongoing SAAPM theme: Protecting Our People Protects Our Mission.  The theme emphasizes that every service member, regardless of rank, can encourage behaviors that foster a climate of dignity and respect, and in doing so, help ensure our readiness to complete the mission.

Morie, who will receive a Certificate of Commendation and Challenge Coin from the Commandant, collaborated with other Marines while creating his poster.

“The Ethos poster inspiration stemmed from some ideas our installation commander, Col Michael D. Reilly, initiated,” Morie said.  “He wanted common ground and an overarching ethos to instill in the Marines and Sailors of Combined Arms Training Center Camp Fuji.”

Morie created multiple drafts and gathered input from the primary staff and Col Reilly before finishing the poster, and Marines and Sailors stationed at Camp Fuji then received wallet-sized copies.

“It acts as a reminder of who we are and what we stand for,” Morie said.

1stLt Ryan Miles earned first runner-up honors, and Cpl Alyissa Williamson was the second runner-up. All participants are commended for their talent and commitment to the Marine Corps Sexual Assault Prevention and Response (SAPR) program.
